Azerbaijan and Lithuania have had economic and cultural relations for many years, and recently bilateral relations have intensified.
In 2019, the Minister of Social Security and Labour of the Republic of Lithuania visited Azerbaijan, and within the framework of this visit, a meeting was held with the Minister of Labour and Social Protection of Population, Mr. Sahil Babayev. During the meeting, presentations were made to the Lithuanian Minister and delegation on Azerbaijan's DOST project, electronic systems in the fields of labour, employment, social security, and e-services provided to the population. Within the framework of the visit, the Agreement "On cooperation in the fields of labour and social protection between the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Population of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Social Security and Labour of the Republic of Lithuania" was signed.
The signed Agreement created conditions for further expansion of cooperation between the two countries and opened the way for new partnership opportunities. On April 30, 2021, an online signing ceremony of the "Action Plan" for 2021 took place between the Azerbaijan Public Employment Agency under the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of of Population and the Employment Service (Service) under the Ministry of Social Security and Labour of the Republic of Lithuania.
The "Action Plan" includes cooperation in supporting the employment of citizens from the vulnerable groups, exchange of experience on eliminating unemployment among young people, vocational training and active labour market policies, and other areas. Within the framework of the "Action Plan", workshops and webinars, as well as a study visit to Lithuania, were organized for the purpose of information exchange in 2021.
In January 2022, the Action Plan for 2022 was signed between the SEA and the Service. The Action Plan includes the expansion of cooperation, experience and information exchange.
On May 20, 2022, a joint workshop on "Youth Services" was held between the two institutions. Within the framework of the signed Action Plan, in September 2022, a delegation from the Service paid an official visit to the SEA.
